{"id":11539,"date":"2020-10-02T02:50:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T01:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.avolutionsoftware.com\/?p=11539"},"modified":"2024-08-12T19:23:10","modified_gmt":"2024-08-12T18:23:10","slug":"enterprise-technical-architecture-skills-in-demand-during-covid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.avolutionsoftware.com\/news\/enterprise-technical-architecture-skills-in-demand-during-covid\/","title":{"rendered":"Enterprise &#038; Technical Architecture Skills in Strong Demand During COVID\u2019s \u201cMassive Changes\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>For enterprise architects and digital business strategy managers data emerging from the first half of 2020 reveals both good and bad news.<\/h6>\n<p>The bad news is that workload,\u00a0stresses\u00a0and the urgency of looking after technology infrastructure and business processes remain high.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that recognition and demand for core architecture and strategy skills is also increasing.<\/p>\n<p>The top 5 skills shortages highlighted by COVID-19 are\u00a0\u201ccybersecurity,\u00a0organisational change management,\u00a0enterprise architecture, technical architecture\u00a0and advanced analytics,\u201d according to\u00a0September\u00a02020 research\u00a0just released\u00a0by tech recruiter\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harveynash.com\/\">Harvey Nash<\/a><sup>i<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The 2020 Harvey Nash \/ KPMG CIO Survey is the largest IT leadership survey in the world in terms of number of respondents. The survey was conducted of 4,219 CIOs and technology leaders across 83 countries.<\/p>\n<p>It\u00a0revealed\u00a0that\u00a0companies spent the equivalent of around US$15bn\u202fextra a week on technology to enable safe and secure home working during COVID-19, as they moved\u00a0workforces\u00a0en-mass to remote working and\u00a0to ensure\u00a0ongoing access to digital services.<sup>ii<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Avolution\u2019s Dr Tim O\u2019Neill said: &#8220;Architects have been putting their data to work to advise on IT portfolios and business outcomes. Details of systems, applications, infrastructure registers and the processes and capabilities they underpin are stored in a cloud-based digital repository in ABACUS, and our user data shows it is being viewed, queried and analysed to supply financial and technical metrics day-to-day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBusiness divisions are turning to architects to manage technical infrastructure securely\u00a0in the midst of\u00a0upheaval. They are also having to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.avolutionsoftware.com\/use-cases\/how-to-build-roadmaps-for-enterprise-government-and-it-resilience\/\">map out multiple scenarios,\u00a0rethink strategies,\u00a0customer journeys\u00a0and recalculate forecasts at speed<\/a>. Two of the most common use cases are a big acceleration in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avolutionsoftware.com\/use-cases\/how-to-architect-cloud-migration\/\">cloud migration<\/a> and increased focus on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avolutionsoftware.com\/use-cases\/how-to-manage-architecture-cybersecurity\/\">cybersecurity<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A recent survey of IT executives from Flexera \u201cState of the Cloud Report\u201d found that\u00a0even though\u00a0enterprises\u00a0are over budget for cloud spend\u00a0by an average of 23 percent, they\u00a0intend to increase spending even more on cloud services\u00a0this year.<sup>iii<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Traditional architecture techniques such as process diagramming are still part of an\u00a0architect\u2019s\u00a0toolkit. Architects are also turning to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avolutionsoftware.com\/abacus\/the-graph-database-advantage-for-enterprise-architects\/\">graph database visualizations<\/a> for navigating dependencies\u00a0and\u00a0impact analysis,\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.avolutionsoftware.com\/use-cases\/automating-enterprise-architecture-and-financial-analysis-algorithms\/\">data-driven algorithm-based analysis<\/a>, which allow them to make cost and technical calculations available on-demand to business divisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA big part of\u00a0the\u00a0risk modelling and enterprise resilience piece that architects are grappling with this year relies on properly connected and integrated data and\u00a0processes.\u00a0Architects are focusing on\u00a0automating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avolutionsoftware.com\/our-resources\/adapters-integrations\/\">integrations and APIs<\/a>,\u00a0and also\u00a0on making sure that business-friendly dashboards and reports are available\u00a0within\u00a0their\u00a0remote working environments, for instance\u00a0MS Teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe need for day-to-day accuracy means\u00a0business\u00a0continuity plans are moving out of\u00a0PowerPoint\u00a0and into digital\u00a0environments where\u00a0near future states\u00a0or crisis events\u00a0can be\u00a0simulated and\u00a0quantified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For enterprise architects and digital business strategy managers data emerging from the first half of 2020 reveals both good and bad news.
