Enterprise architecture frameworks are often used as accelerators for navigating business change. They provide a \u201cstepping off\u201d point to guide how capabilities, processes and technology and other business and technology elements work together.<\/span><\/p>\n

EA frameworks provide a common language, and often notations or iconography to describe systems and technologies.<\/p>\n

Both the most popular frameworks and the way they are used has changed significantly in the last five to ten years. In 2024, experienced architects are just as likely to select a framework specific to the industry they are working in, or a cybersecurity framework, and add a chosen notation such as for cloud architecture<\/a> deployment diagrams.<\/p>\n

TOGAF, traditionally positioned as \u201cone framework to rule them all\u201d, still maintains its status as the most popular framework. But practically speaking, TOGAF usage has evolved. Architects often select the TOGAF concepts and artifacts most relevant to their project rather than adhering to the entire, extensive methodology.<\/p>\n

Arguably this is the way frameworks should always be used.<\/p>\n
