AVOLUTION, recently positioned as a\u00a0\u2018Leader\u2019 in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture tools*<\/a>\u00a0for the second consecutive year and\u00a0developer of the ABACUS\u00ae software for enterprise modeling, planning and IT strategy,\u00a0has today announced its latest release, ABACUS 4.3. New features will enhance visualization options, aid user-productivity, simplify data interchange with 3rd<\/sup>-party systems, and further strengthen the tool\u2019s support of industry standards.<\/span><\/p>\n

Available from today, ABACUS 4.3 introduces new capabilities for creating business architecture views with both detail and clarity.<\/p>\n

Peter Collins, ABACUS Product Manager, commented: \u201cWe\u2019ve introduced a range of new functionality that will allow our users to produce better results in less time. Users will now be able to create component \u2018replicas\u2019 for example, in which components can be displayed in multiple locations on a single diagram to minimise the crossing of connector lines, reduce complexity and improve the display of landscapes. \u00a0We\u2019ve also enhanced many other artefact types, and users will now be able to colour and show property values in matrices, to save personalised matrix and catalogue views and to publish matrices to HTML. We\u2019ve also added a simplified \u2018export to MS Excel\u2019 option through a toolbar button.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ease with which ABACUS Catalogues can be used to interchange data with 3rd<\/sup>-party repositories has also been enhanced, with seamless synchronisation now achievable without any change to the 3rd party repository itself. This can be of great benefit to organisations that need to keep multiple system repositories current, and where ABACUS can fulfil the role of a \u2018central hub\u2019 for enterprise data.\u201d<\/p>\n

ABACUS 4.3 also streamlines the process of transferring content such as diagrams, catalogues and matrices between different architectures within a single ABACUS repository. The visual characteristics of connections and their attachment to components can now be precisely controlled by properties and pre-defined rules, or constraints, guiding architects and ensuring model integrity. Pre-defined diagramming rules of this kind are particularly useful when working with frameworks or notations that rely on frequently used connection types, such as \u2018supports\u2019 or \u2018realizes\u2019, in the ArchiMate framework.<\/p>\n

As with all new ABACUS releases, support for the 50+ industry frameworks and notations supplied with ABACUS has been updated and new meta-models added. Enhancements have been made to ArchiMate<\/a> 2.0 and 2.1 with clarity on the use of direct and derived relationship types and ABACUS 4.3 contains an improved hybrid meta-model of TOGAF<\/a> 9.1 with ArchiMate 2.x and an upgraded Business Model Canvas. New libraries for ITIL v3, TRAK 2013 and UKRA 1.0 (UK Government Reference Architecture) have also been added. The tool\u2019s own default meta-model, which incorporates\u00a0several industry best practice standards, fully exploits the various new features in ABACUS 4.3.<\/p>\n
