Use Case:Arxada wanted to rationalize its extensive application portfolio into a lean, cost-effective set of systems that fully support the company’s new corporate identity and business goals.

Solution: Arxada devised a pragmatic four-step strategy anchored in iterative, business-driven decision-making to systematically streamline its portfolio. With ABACUS making communication easier, the enterprise architecture team reduced costs, standardized and unified the global application landscape, enabled integrated global business processes, and established a clear architectural vision.

CERN

INTERGOVERNMENTAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Use Case: CERN faced a common Enterprise Architecture challenge: how to manage a complex landscape of products, teams, supported business capabilities, related business processes and the underpinning IT applications and infrastructure.

Solution: CERN undertook the challenge of defining and standardizing Enterprise Architecture modeling by establishing guidelines and best practices. ABACUS played a crucial role in supporting these initiatives, becoming its central repository and unique source of truth for all architecture related information, spanning from the product map, via the business capability map, to detailed multi-level business process models and the business application landscape as well as the underpinning server infrastructure.

Use Case: BANTRAB identified an opportunity to enhance its strategic alignment and operational efficiency.

Solution: To seize this opportunity, the bank adopted an Enterprise Architecture (EA) practice, Over a year after implementing ABACUS, BANTRAB has developed a governance schema, IT Procurement Process Governance, and a to-be definition for strategic products and services. More than twenty-five organizational teams across the workforce use ABACUS dashboards to
understand relationships and dependencies within the organization.

ENERGY & INFRASTRUCTURE

Objective: The CLP enterprise architecture team needed to update their architecture to set their organization up for growth. They moved from a project-siloed, application-centric architecture to a future fit architecture built around re-usable business capabilities. At the same time they built an architecture roadmap for a successful smart meter rollout.

Use Case: US insurance and financial services giant Ameritas wanted to eliminate spreadsheet sprawl and establish an authoritative source that could be referred to company-wide to guide cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, technical debt reduction and strategy.

Solution: The team is using ABACUS to integrate data from operational systems, to run impact analysis and to provide self-service access to compliance information. They have built an  up-to-date inventory of data, applications, servers and operating systems. They generate architectural artifacts including infrastructure diagrams, application integration diagrams, application catalogues and roadmaps. Employees from the CIO to datacentre operators, are kept informed using enterprise architecture data.

Solution: Over a period of only 6 months the team centralized technology and application data in ABACUS and ran cost and risk algorithms on their enterprise architecture models. By managing the risks associated with technical debt and legacy systems strategically, they quickly identified hard dollar savings and ways to improve IT capacity and efficiency.
